Looking for a fun activity you can do with your child this weekend? Making homemade slime is a super fun way to spend a free afternoon.

Not only is it fun and interesting sensory experience for your little one, but it’s also a great way to spark their imaginations.

This super-easy, five-ingredient slime recipe from Fun At Home With Kids uses ingredients you may even already have in the pantry.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup chia seeds
  • 2 cups water
  • Xanthan gum
  • Food colouring
  • 450g cornflour (plus extra for kneading)

Method

  1. Combine the chia seeds and water in a sealed container and store in the fridge for at least 12 hours, stirring to break up any clumps.
  2. Once the chia seeds have turned gelatinous, stir again to break up any clumps that may have formed overnight.
  3. Add 1 teaspoon of xanthan gum and whisk to combine.
  4. Add a couple of drops of food colouring and 450g of cornflour.
  5. Stir until the mix is thick enough to knead by hand.
  6. Add additional cornflour one tablespoon at a time while kneading, until the mixture no longer sticks to your hands.

Notes

As this slime is perishable, ensure you store it in a sealed container in the fridge. Discard of the slime after a couple of days.

If your slime starts to dry out, just wet your hands and knead again to rehydrate.
