Can My Child Overdose on Vitamins or Minerals?
At Brauer Natural Medicine, we understand that finding the right dietary supplement for your children can be easier said than done. When trying new things, it's important that you have all the information you need. Not only so you can make an informed decision, but to ensure that the product performs optimally for your kids as well.
One of the most common questions asked about vitamin and mineral supplements is whether it's possible to overdose on them.
Unfortunately, as it goes in life, sometimes you really can have too much of a good thing.
This is no different with vitamins and minerals, as both you and your little one could overdose if the Recommended Daily Intake is exceeded. However, this doesn't mean vitamin supplements shouldn't be used, as they may help to support your child's healthy growth and development.
General multivitamin dietary supplements for children are not required to contain vitamins and minerals in excess of the RDIs. This is because during your child's day and through their regular diet, they will be naturally obtaining some level of these vitamins and minerals. As such, they wouldn't need an overly high dose.
Brauer Natural Medicine's range of vitamins for children have been scientifically formulated to help support your child's vitamin and mineral intake without exceeding the RDIs. We have also included metric measuring devices in each of our products so that you can give your kids an accurate dosage. Our range has naturally delicious flavours that kids enjoy, so make sure you store them out of reach of your kids!
When giving a mineral or vitamin supplement to your child, there are a few things to be mindful of.
- Always read the label, and only use the product as it has been directed.
- Use an accurate measuring device so you know exactly how much you're giving them
- If you have any concerns at all about your child, or suspect your child may have exceeded the recommended dosage, see your healthcare professional or give the friendly team at the poisons advice line a call on 131 126 with the label of the bottle handy.
What Happens If My Child Spits Up or Doesn't Take the Full Dose?
If you have a little wiggle pot in the family or a kid that kicks up a fuss whever it's time to take any medicine, don't stress yourself.
If you aren't sure how much of the supplement they've taken in, just wait until the next dosage period.
Not only will it give your child a chance to calm down (or for you to work out some battle tactics), it'll ensure that you won't give them too much.
Choose a Children's Vitamin Supplement that Suits You
Giving your child a dietary supplement may help to support them if their dietary intake is inadequate, helping to ensure that they are getting the right nutrients to grow and thrive.
